A US Naval Academy graduate, David served in the US submarine force for 28 years. As captain of the USS Santa Fe (1999-2001), he developed and successfully embedded Intent-Based Leadership®, a concept which empowers change in the workplace to create leaders at all levels. David’s tenure aboard the Santa Fe earned widespread military recognition.
Since retiring from the Navy in 2009, David has worked as a leadership consultant and has taught graduate level leadership at Columbia University.
In 2012, he founded the organisation Turn the Ship Around to promote the Intent-Based Leadership® model and provide a variety of resources to support organisations adopting this leadership model. Following publication in 2012, Turn the Ship Around! A True Story of Turning Followers Into Leaders, was named the No1 must-read business book of the year by Fortune magazine with USA Today listing it as one of the top 12 business books of all time.
David is a renowned keynote speaker and his insightful weekly Leadership Nudges are sent to the inboxes of more than 20,000 international business leaders.
In 2015, David was named on the American Management Association’s “Leaders to Watch” list.
