Case Studies | Landcatch - Investors In People and Investors In Young People

Landcatch supplies high-quality salmon eggs and juvenile fish worldwide, enabling sustainable and profitable salmon production. Having worked with Remarkable since 2013, in 2019 they achieved the Investors In People (IIP) Platinum accreditation as well as already being Investors in Young People Gold accredited. Previously they were only the second aquaculture company in the UK to achieve Investors in People Standard accreditation.

Landcatch's Vision 2020 Strategy, Challenger to Champion, used the IIP framework to successfully develop the business and change the culture, embedding their commitment to their people.

Insights, Analysis and KPIs

Based on the insights gained from the IIP survey, Remarkable developed a GAP analysis, introducing an IIP Working Group to embed the principles of the framework within the organisation and clarify Landcatch’s Vision, Purpose and Corporate Objectives. Quarterly performance meetings were introduced to update staff on how the company was tracking again KPIs and on new business wins. Remarkable also worked with Landcatch to refresh their company values and empower people to put them into practice in their everyday behaviours and interactions, and we also looked at the company’s Reward and Recognition schemes.

Our achievement of the Investors in People Platinum award is recognition for all the hard work everybody has put in over the last few years. Personal thanks from me to the whole team, well done! And thanks too to our Remarkable Specialist, who quickly understood our business situation and our future needs – she was extremely well received by staff, developing a good rapport with staff, establishing trust and openness - which allowed full exploration of the current situation and future expectations, thank you.

Jarl van den Berg, General Manager at Landcatch

The results were demonstrable

Open and effective communications resulted in a more positive culture. The quarterly performance meetings were welcomed by staff, bringing transparency to Landcatch's performance, objectives, and KPIs. People began to take responsibility for living the company values, constructively challenging behaviours that were not aligned; and had increased confidence to make decisions. Landcatch introduced a staff bonus scheme and successes were celebrated during regular social events, building team spirit.

In addition, managers’ roles were clarified and they were coached and supported by colleagues to become one cohesive management team. The company introduced an Apprentice to Expert Career Progression Guide, which linked learning and development with career progression. Staff became more willing to share the knowledge and information gained from training courses, conferences, and seminars.

Landcatch now benchmarks in the top 10% of IIP accredited companies – 1,500 organisations across all sectors and industries - scoring 824 out of 900. And they rank almost 20% above their own industry average.
