20/20 Productions are a creative communication, event and digital production agency. Edinburgh based, they have expanded into America and the United Arab Emirates.
For many companies in the creative industries the fast-paced and ever-changing nature of the sector can make people development a daunting challenge. However, Alastair Scott, managing director at 20/20 Productions says the one thing that has always remained constant is how often his team tell him how great it is to work at 20/20 Productions. “I co-founded the company in 1990 and since then I’ve seen and managed many changes. For a lot of companies, change is a scary word but here at 20/20 we embrace it. We would have disappeared a long time ago if we had stood still and not evolved.”
“Since day one we’ve focused a huge amount of energy on investing in our people and their training and development”. It’s this continuous commitment that has enabled the company go from strength to strength.
In 1998, 20/20 Productions started on its Remarkable (formerly Investors in People Scotland) journey, gaining Investors in People status the following year. Alastair says, “We’re extremely proud of the fact that we’ve successfully held this standard for almost twenty years.” And in 2016, 20/20 Productions also achieved Investors in Young People accreditation, which recognises an employer’s commitment to their young people.
“Being involved with Investors in Young People has helped hugely with recruitment, retention and succession planning. Our Remarkable specialist Michelle showed us what young people offer businesses with their different perspectives, diversity of thought and enthusiasm; what they expect from work and how they view future opportunities”. Taking this on board, 20/20 Productions have developed a robust induction and development programme aimed at younger employees in order to support their transition from education to employment.
20/20 Productions has also developed its approach to working with the education sector. “Through work placement, our colleagues’ outreach work and direct links to schools, colleges and universities, we inform and attract new talent into our business. We have tailored our approach to offer a more structured placement environment, which benefits both students and our business. With the help of Remarkable we will continue to recruit and retain young employees by offering them opportunity and development in equal measure”.
For Alastair, investing time and effort in continual development and training means young people who join the company become advocates and future leaders, helping embed and live our company values and ensure the business thrives. He says, “Growth is our number one target. Our Investors in People and Investors in Young People accreditations, alongside ongoing support from Remarkable, has allowed us to progress well on this objective. Recruiting young people will contribute to this with fresh ideas, new ways of working and adaptations to our business model reflecting these changes”.
